RALEIGH – Rhonda Beard of Greensboro has an affinity for jackpot games like Mega Millions and Powerball. After she won $1 million in Wednesday’s Powerball drawing, it’s also evident much she cares about her family: She decided to share her prize money with two of her relatives.

“If I win, everybody wins,” Beard said about her choice.

Beard’s $334,000 share of the winnings came to $231,295 after required state and federal withholdings. Latisha Wright and Ervin Boyd, also residents of Greensboro, each received a $333,000 share worth $230,602 apiece after taxes.

Beard purchased the lucky ticket, which beat odds of 1 in 5.1 million, at the Food Lion on East Market Street in Greensboro.

Another ticket won $1 million in the drawing, but has yet to be claimed. It was sold at the Quality Mart on Beryl Road in Raleigh.

Ticket sales made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion for the state last year.
