Daniel Allen of Waxhaw in Union County beat odds of 1 in 5.1 million to win a $1 million Powerball prize in Saturday’s drawing.

Allen, who bought his lucky ticket at the Kangaroo Express on Litchford Road in Raleigh, claimed his prize on Monday. After tax withholdings, he received $692,500.

The win continued a lucky streak for North Carolinians in the Powerball game. The streak includes a North Carolina woman having one of the three lucky tickets that shared a $564 million Powerball jackpot in February and six wins of $1 million in the game so far this year.

Tonight’s Powerball jackpot will be an estimated $119 million as an annuity or $76.4 million as a lump sum.

Ticket sales made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion for the state last year. North Carolina Education Lottery net proceeds will be used this year to help pay salaries of teachers and teacher assistants, for pre-kindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, school construction and repair, and need-based college scholarships and financial aid.
