Nancy Renea of Pleasant Garden says she will finally believe she won $200,000 playing a lottery game when the money shows up in her bank account.

“I can’t believe it,” said Renea on Friday as she claimed her win of the top prize in the $200,000 Gold Rush game. “When I can check my bank account and all those zeroes show up, I will believe it is real.”

Renea, a service technician, said the win came at work after she bought two $5 tickets at the Family Fare on Randleman Road in Greensboro. After taxes were withheld, she received $138,501.

“I’m a priority person,” Renea said. “My first priority is paying off bills.”

Four top prizes of $200,000 remain to be claimed in the game.

Ticket sales have made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $3.6 billion for the state. North Carolina Education Lottery net proceeds will be used this year to help pay salaries of teachers and teacher assistants, for pre-kindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, school construction and repair, and need-based college scholarships and financial aid.
