Randy Black of Wake County is the first to win one of the five $1 million prizes in the new 100X The Cash instant game.

Black bought his lucky ticket at the Sheetz on Chapel Hill Road in Morrisville.

A $1 million prize in the game can be claimed in 20 annuity payments of $50,000, or a one-time payment of $600,000. Black chose the annuity and received on Tuesday his first payment, $34,631 after tax withholdings.

The 100X The Cash game went on sale this week. Three top prizes of $4 million and four $1 million prizes remain to be claimed in the game.

Ticket sales make it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion a year for education. Net proceeds will be used this year to help pay salaries of teachers and teacher assistants, for pre-kindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, for school construction and repair, and need-based college scholarships and financial aid.
