RALEIGH – Ana Hernandez of Raleigh says the $200,000 she won on a $5 lottery ticket will help her three children go to college.

Hernandez purchased the lucky 20X The Cash ticket at H&K Petroleum on Capital Boulevard in Raleigh. After state and federal taxes were withheld, she received a check for $128,500.

“When I scratched off the ticket, I knew it was a winner,” Hernandez said. “I just didn’t know how big a winner it was until the clerk told me. It was very exciting and I’m very happy.”

The 20X The Cash game went on sale on Feb. 3. As of Monday morning, two $200,000 top prizes remain to be claimed in the game.

Ticket sales have made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $3.6 billion for the state. Net proceeds will be used this year to help pay salaries of teachers and teacher assistants, for pre-kindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, for school construction and repair, and need-based college scholarships and financial aid.
