RALEIGH – Archdale resident Ronald Thompson is the latest player to win $1 million playing the 100X The Cash game. He scratched off the lucky $20 ticket after purchasing it at the TMM 2 store on U.S. 311 in Archdale on Sunday.

“It hasn’t hit me yet,” Thompson said. “This will really help a lot in my day to day life. Outside of that, I’ll probably take a trip to the beach and have a good time. It’s overwhelming for sure, but I’m very excited and very happy.”

A $1 million prize in the game can be claimed in 20 annuity payments of $50,000, or a one-time payment of $600,000. Thompson chose the lump sum, worth $415,506 after required state and federal withholdings.

The 100X The Cash game went on sale March 3 with three top prizes of $4 million and five $1 million prizes. As of Tuesday afternoon, two top prizes and three $1 million prizes remain to be claimed in the game.

Ticket sales made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion for the state last year. North Carolina Education Lottery net proceeds will be used this year to help pay salaries of teachers and teacher assistants, for pre-kindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, school construction and repair, and need-based college scholarships and financial aid.
