RALEIGH – Richard McFayden and his mother Katherine McFayden of Rockingham are the latest players to win the $150,000 top prize in the new $500 Mayhem game.

Richard purchased the lucky $5 ticket at the Mill Road Grocery on Mill Road in Rockingham on Saturday. He and his mother claimed $75,000 each, which amounted to $51,938 after state and federal taxes were withheld.

The $500 Mayhem game went on sale on May 5. As of Wednesday afternoon, three top prizes remain to be claimed in the game.

Ticket sales have made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $3.8 billion for the state. Net proceeds will be used this year to help pay salaries of teachers and teacher assistants, for pre-kindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, for school construction and repair, and need-based college scholarships and financial aid.
