RALEIGH – Benjamin Morgan, who lives on the Edgecombe County side of the town of Fountain, matched all five numbers in the May 5 Carolina Cash 5 drawing to win the $124,195 jackpot.

Morgan picked his own numbers on a ticket he purchased at the Community Store on U.S. 258 North in Fountain. After state and federal taxes were withheld, he collected a check for $86,005.

The jackpot for the Friday, May 8 Cash 5 drawing is $89,000. Odds of winning a Cash 5 jackpot are 1 in 575,757.

Ticket sales made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion for the state last year. North Carolina Education Lottery net proceeds will be used this year to help pay salaries of teachers and teacher assistants, for pre-kindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, school construction and repair, and need-based college scholarships and financial aid.
