RALEIGH – Betty Martin of Supply plans to use the $192,955 jackpot she won playing Carolina Cash 5 to pay off her home, cars and credit cards. She chose her own numbers to win the jackpot in the June 6 drawing.

Martin learned of her big win while watching television after the drawing.

“It was around one in the morning when I saw the numbers on the screen,” Martin said. “After that I kept checking and checking my ticket. I couldn’t sleep at all the rest of the night. I was just wide awake. I still am, really. It’s just so exciting and I’m very thankful.”

Martin purchased the lucky ticket at Food Lion on Sabbath Home Road Southwest in Holden Beach.

After state and federal taxes were withheld, Martin collected a check for $133,622. She beat odds of 1 in 575,757 to win the jackpot. The jackpot for the Wednesday, June 10 Cash 5 drawing is $126,000.

“I will still play the lottery,” Martin said as she collected her winnings. “I’m glad it’s here and I enjoy playing it. And I’m glad that the money goes to education because the kids really need it.”

Ticket sales made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion for the state last year. North Carolina Education Lottery net proceeds will be used this year to help pay salaries of teachers and teacher assistants, for pre-kindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, school construction and repair, and need-based college scholarships and financial aid.
