Arquilla Lance, a retired restaurant manager from Asheville, said she feels lucky after turning a $20 investment on a 100X The Cash lottery ticket into a $1 million prize.

“I’d never even played that game before,” Lance said. “I don’t know why I picked it. I was just in the right place at the right time.”

A $1 million prize in the game can be claimed in 20 annuity payments of $50,000 or a one-time payment of $600,000. Lance chose the lump sum and received $415,506 after required state and federal withholdings. Lance purchased the lucky ticket at Suttles Quik Mart on Newfound Road in Asheville.
“It feels pretty good to win,” Lance said. “I’m going to save as much of this money as I can.”
As of Thursday morning, one $4 million prize and two $1 million prizes remain to be claimed in the game.

Ticket sales made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion dollars for the state last year. North Carolina Education Lottery net proceeds were used last year to help pay salaries of teachers and teacher assistants, for pre-kindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, school construction and repair, and need-based college scholarships and financial aid.
