RALEIGH – Wanda Stroud, a government employee from Chester S.C., said she plans to use the $1 million prize she won playing 50X The Cash to buy a new car, share with her daughters and save for the future.

Stroud purchased the lucky $10 instant scratch-off ticket at the Food Lion on Mt. Holly Huntersville Road in Huntersville.

“I scratched off the ticket and I was in total disbelief,” said Stroud. “I’m still in denial. I’ve won $200 on a scratch-off before, but this feels completely different.”

A $1 million prize in the game can be claimed in 20 annuity payments of $50,000 or a one-time payment of $600,000. Stroud chose the lump sum, worth $415,503 after required withholdings.

The 50X The Cash game went on sale on Feb. 3. As of Tuesday morning, one more $1 million top prize remains to be claimed in the game.

Ticket sales made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion dollars for the state last year. For details on how $297 million in lottery funds have made a difference in Mecklenburg County, click on the “Where the Money Goes” tab on the lottery’s website.
