RALEIGH – Champakbhai Patel of Salisbury said it “feels very good” to win $1 million playing the lottery’s new Ultimate Millions scratch-off game.

“I’m happy,” said Patel as he claimed his winnings on Tuesday afternoon.

The lucky $30 ticket came from Danny’s Place, a convenience store Patel owns on West Main Street in Rockwell.

A $1 million prize in the game can be claimed in 20 annuity payments of $50,000 or a one-time payment of $600,000. Patel chose the lump sum, worth $415,509 after required withholdings.

Ticket sales made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion dollars for the state last year. For details on how $44.1 million in lottery funds have made a difference in Rowan County, click on the “Where the Money Goes” tab on the lottery’s website.
