RALEIGH – Brian Miller went to the store Thursday to get the key ingredient for family dinner. When he added a $20 scratch-off ticket to his purchases, he brought home a whole lot more.

“I went for BBQ sauce and came back with the million,” the Greensboro man said. “You can’t beat that.”

Miller won the $1 million prize playing the $200 Million Blowout game. It can be claimed as an annuity of $50,000 a year for 20 years or as a lump sum of $600,000. Miller chose the cash option, worth $415,506 after required state and federal withholdings.

Miller, who repairs machines for a disaster recovery service, said the after-tax winnings would allow his family to pay off the mortgage on their house and save for their daughter’s college education.

With his claim, seven prizes of $1 million and two top prizes of $4 million remain to be claimed in the $200 Million Blowout game.

Miller purchased his lucky ticket at the Walmart on High Point Road in Greensboro.
Ticket sales made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion dollars for the state last year. For details on how more than $207.7 million in lottery funds have made a difference in Guilford County, click on the “Where the Money Goes” section of the lottery’s website.
