John Dooley of Raeford and his wife Tanja Phillips won the $890,583 Cash 5 jackpot Tuesday night and less than 12 hours later claimed their prize.

The couple bought their ticket for the Jan. 12 drawing at the Alco on Rockfish Rd. in Raeford. After required state and federal tax withholdings, they took home $616,729.

Ticket sales from games like Cash 5 made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion dollars for the state last year.
