Kajal Patel from Arden won $200,000 in the Powerball drawing on Wednesday Dec. 23.

She claimed her prize at lottery headquarters in Raleigh Tuesday morning. After required state and federal tax withholdings she received $138,512.

Patel purchased the winning $3 Power Play ticket at Hyder’s Kountry Kubbard on Boylston Highway in Mills River. To win $200,000 she matched four of the five white balls and the red Powerball. The prize quadrupled when the 4x multiplier was drawn for Power Play tickets.

Ticket sales from games like Powerball made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion dollars for the state last year.
