Dean Rogers from Weaverville is the latest player to claim a $100,000 prize in the record-setting Powerball drawing on January 13.

“We feel very blessed and fortunate to have this to help our family,” Rogers said.

Rogers and his family claimed the prize Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he received $69,250. He plans to use the money to pay for his children’s education.

Rogers purchased the winning $3 Power Play ticket at Mountain Energy on Monticello Road in Weaverville. The $50,000 prize doubled when the 2x multiplier was drawn for Power Play tickets.

His win was one of three $100,000 prizes won in North Carolina in the drawing.

Ticket sales from games like Powerball made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion dollars for the state last year.
