RALEIGH – Jack Littles of Cofield is North Carolina’s first $1 million lottery winner of the New Year. He purchased a lucky $10 ticket for the Holiday Gold instant game at the Duck Thru Food Store on West Main Street in Harrellsville.

A $1 million prize in the game can be claimed as an annuity of $50,000 a year for 20 years or as a lump sum of $600,000. Littles chose the cash option, worth $415,503 after required state and federal withholdings.

Ticket sales made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion dollars for the state last year. For details on how more than $10.6 million in lottery funds have made a difference in Hertford County, click on the “Where the Money Goes” section of the lottery’s website.
