William Jorgensen from Mooresville is the latest player to claim his Powerball prize as the jackpot swells to $500 million.

Jorgensen won $100,000 in the Jan. 2 drawing and claimed his prize this morning. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he received $69,250.

Jorgensen bought a $3 Power Play ticket at Lakeside Food Mart on Williamson Rd. in Mooresville. His Quick Pick ticket matched four of the five white balls and the red Powerball but doubled from $50,000 to $100,000 when the 2X multiplier was drawn. Players who buy a Power Play ticket for tonight’s drawing have the chance to win up to 5X their prize amount.

Jorgensen is the 4th player to claim a Powerball prize this week. Other winners were:

•Sahara Gesing, Huntersville: $50,000 prize Jan. 2 drawing
•Erin Nucci, Charlotte: $50,000 prize Jan. 2 drawing
•Kristi Spruill, Fayetteville: $100,00 prize Dec. 16 drawing

Ticket sales from games like Powerball made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion dollars for the state last year.
