RALEIGH – Dasmine Caldwell, a cashier and community college student from Winston-Salem, says she’s buying a Volkswagen Beetle after winning $100,000 playing the lottery.

Caldwell and her mom went to the Fairway One Stop on Broad Street to get a lottery ticket. Caldwell chose a $20 Ruby Red 7’s ticket. As her mom drove, Caldwell scratched. She saw that one of her winning numbers, 38, matched for a prize: $100,000.

“I started screaming,” Caldwell recalled. Her mother was in disbelief until she stopped the car and looked at the ticket. Then she started screaming too.

Caldwell, who aspires to become a pediatrician, took home $69,256 after required tax withholdings.

There are five more $100,000 prizes in the Ruby Red 7’s game, as well as two $1 million prizes and two $4 million prizes.
