Luck visited Rodrick and Beverly Loritts of Conover for a second time after they won $300,000 by playing the $300,000 Jackpot scratch-off game.

This win comes just six months after his wife won $10,000 playing 100X the Cash.

Lorrits, a longtime landscaper, had to check his ticket twice before realizing he won. Lorrits thought his numbers didn’t match but then he said, “Something told me to look again.”

Lorrits had his wife double check and sure enough he had a winning ticket. “We both started screaming,” Lorrits said. “I’m still in awe, I can’t believe it.”

The couple claimed their prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, they received $207,751. They plan to use some of the money to buy a new car.

Loritts bought the $5 winning ticket at the Quick Stop on 1st Street West in Conover.

Even after these wins the couple said their luckiest experience is having been together for 21 years.

$300,000 Jackpot launched in January with four top prizes of $300,000. Loritts is the first winner to claim a top prize. Three top prizes remain.

Ticket sales from games like $300,000 Jackpot made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion dollars for the state last year.
