Beginning Sunday, North Carolinians can try their luck on a new draw game called Lucky for Life that offers a top prize of $1,000 a day every day for life.

“The great thing about Lucky for Life is it awards a prize that lasts a lifetime,” said Alice Garland, executive director of the N.C. Education Lottery. “It will keep paying the prize - $1,000 a day – all of a winner’s life. We can’t wait to meet the first North Carolinian who wins this prize.”

Lucky for Life, a multi-state game, began in New England and has spread to other states in the South and the Midwest. North Carolina will be the 20th state to offer the game. Tickets are $2 each and drawings will be conducted on Mondays and Thursdays at about 10:38 p.m. The game is the first new draw game offered by the lottery since October 2014.

Players have 10 ways to win the game. Some of the 10 prizes are:

• $1,000 a Day for Life by matching all six numbers, including the “Lucky Ball” number. Odds are 1 in 30.8 million. The $1,000 a day prize has no limit and will be paid throughout the winner’s lifetime.
• $25,000 a Year for Life by matching the first five numbers - but not the “Lucky Ball.” Odds are 1 in 1,813,000.
• $5000 by matching the first four numbers on the white balls. Odds are 1 in 143,000.
• $4 by matching the Lucky Ball. Odds are 1 in 32.

North Carolinians already have won “for life” prizes in instant games such as $500 a Week For Life! and $200,000 A Year for Life. Just like in those games, winners of the Lucky for Life top prize may choose a lump sum, if they prefer. The lump sum for the top prize is $5.75 million. The annuity prize is guaranteed for at least 20 years to the winner’s estate or heirs.

“Lucky for Life brings an exciting new prize for North Carolinians to win,” Garland said. “We hope they will like the new game as they help raise money for important education programs that assist every county in the state.”
