Wendy Brewer of Efland is celebrating a $100,000 win after instinct led her to buy a Millionaire 7’s scratch-off ticket.

Brewer bought one ticket and didn’t win, but said something told her to buy another one.

“I just felt I was going to win big,” Brewer said.

When she started scratching, she realized she had a winning ticket.

“My legs were shaking so badly I had to have the clerk look at the ticket to make sure I was right,” Brewer said.

Brewer claimed her prize Thursday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After state and federal tax withholdings, she took home $69,253. She plans to use some of the money to take a nice vacation to the mountains.

Brewer bought the $10 ticket at the Foust Corner Market on East Center Street in Mebane.

Millionaire 7’s launched in April 2014 with ten prizes of $1 million and eight prizes of $100,000. Of those, only one $1 million prize remains to be claimed.

Ticket sales from games like Millionaire 7’s helped raise more than half a billion dollars for the state last year. For details on how over $46.1 million in lottery funds has made a difference in Orange County, click on the “For Education” section of the lottery’s website.
