Jane Harris and Teresa Vaccarella, both of the Town of Hemby Bridge in Union County, claimed the $25,000 a Year for Life prize Monday in the new Lucky for Life game.

Players who win the game’s second prize of $25,000 a Year for Life can collect the payment for as long as they live. They also have the option of getting a lump sum of $390,000.

Harris and Vaccarella chose the cash option and split the prize. After federal and state tax withholdings, each took home $135,037.

The lucky ticket was purchased at the Food Lion on Idlewild Road in Indian Trail. It matched all five white balls in the May 9 drawing, beating odds of one in 1.8 million. Players whose numbers match all six numbers drawn win the top prize of $1,000 A Day For Life.

This is the 5thth time since the game launched in February that someone who bought a ticket sold in North Carolina has claimed the $25,000 a Year for Life prize. Still unclaimed is a sixth $25,000 A Year For Life prize that was won in the April 11 drawing by a ticket sold at the Harris Teeter on N.C. 55 in Cary.

Twenty lotteries offer the Lucky for Life game. In all, there are 10 ways to win a prize playing the game. Drawings are held every Monday and Thursday night. Tickets are $2 each.

Ticket sales from games like Lucky for Life made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion dollars for the state last year.
