Bobby Lundy of Sanford wasted no time claiming his $328,041 jackpot after learning he won last night’s Cash 5 drawing.

Lundy, a retiree who works part-time at a golf course, checked his ticket around 5:30 this morning. He was shocked by what he saw.

“I had my wife look at it just to make sure I was actually seeing what I was seeing,” Lundy said.

When she confirmed that he had in fact beat the odds of 1 in 749,398 to win he couldn’t believe it.

“I guess we’re going to Raleigh,” Lundy told his wife.

He claimed his prize a few hours later at lottery headquarters. After federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $227,168. He doesn’t know what he plans to do with the money yet, but said he’ll do something fun.

He bought the $1 Quick Pick ticket at the Kangaroo Express on Hawkins Avenue in Sanford.

Ticket sales from games like Cash 5 made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion dollars for the state last year. For details on how almost $28.1 million in lottery funds has made a difference in Lee County, click on the “For Education” section of the lottery’s website.
