Carrie Johnson of Southern Pines will be able to get her dream home after winning a Cash 5 jackpot of $154,939.

Johnson, a nursing assistant, went to look at her dream home last week. She didn’t have plans to buy it any time soon, but that changed when she beat the odds of 1 in 575,757 to win Wednesday night’s jackpot.

“This is an answer to a prayer,” Johnson said. “It’s a dream come true.”

Johnson claimed the jackpot Friday. After federal and state tax withholdings, she took home $107,295.

She bought the $1 Quick Pick ticket at the Speedway on Sandhills Boulevard in Aberdeen.

Ticket sales from games like Cash 5 made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion dollars for the state last year. For details on how almost $26.2 million in lottery funds has made a difference in Moore County, click on the “For Education” section of the lottery’s website.
