Triangle sisters win $250,000 lottery prize

Hai Zheng from Cary and Yaxiu Zheng from Durham are the latest players to win $250,000 playing the $250,000 Fortune scratch-off game.

The sisters claimed their prize Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings they’ll share $173,126.

They bought the $5 ticket at the Carlie C’s on Wake Forest Highway in Durham.
$250,000 Fortune launched in April with five top prizes of $250,000. One top prize remains.

Ticket sales from games like $250,000 Fortune made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $600 million for the state last year. For details on how more than $331 million in lottery funds has made a difference in Wake County, click on the “For Education” section of the lottery’s website.

For prizes greater than $5,000, 25% federal tax and 5.75% state tax are automatically withheld.
