RALEIGH – A Durham woman turned a $20 lottery ticket into a $1 million lottery prize.

Joycelyne Brown won the prize on a Ruby Red 7's scratch-off ticket she bought at the Circle K on N.C. 55 in Durham.

Brown had the option of collecting her $1 million prize in the form of 20 annuity payments of $50,000 or a one-time cash payment of $600,000. She chose the lump sum, worth $415,506 after required state and federal withholdings.

With Brown's win, two prizes of $1 million and two prizes of $4 million are still in the Ruby Red 7's game.

Ticket sales help the lottery raise on average $1.7 million a day for education. To see how lottery funds have made a difference in Durham County and every county in the state, visit the “For Education” page on the lottery's website.
