Rafael Gutierrez of Apex had luck on his side when he played the Jeep scratch-off game and won $200,000.

His good fortune happened when he stopped by the Circle K on East Williams Street in Apex and bought the $5 ticket.

Gutierrez claimed his prize Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh.

The Jeep game launched in June with four top prizes of $200,000. Since Gutierrez won the last top prize, the lottery will take steps to end the game. People who played the Jeep game can still enter their tickets into a second-chance drawing for a chance to win a Jeep brand vehicle. The date for that drawing will be announced soon.

Ticket sales from instant games make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $600 million a year for education. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
