Vincent Barbour of Hickory had luck on his side when he played the Powerball and won $150,000.

Barbour bought the $3 winning ticket at the SM Mart Springs on Springs Road NE in Hickory.

He beat odds of one in 913,129 to win the prize in the Jan. 6 drawing.

Barbour claimed the prize Friday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $105,752.

The ticket matched the numbers on four of the white balls and the Powerball to win $50,000. Because he added the $1 Power Play feature, the prize tripled to $150,000 when the 3X multiplier was drawn.

Ticket sales from draw games like Powerball make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $600 million a year for the state. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
