John Hall of Concord is celebrating after he played the 20X The Cash scratch-off game and won $250,000.

His good fortune happened when he stopped by Carolina Fast Mart on U.S. 601 in Concord and bought the $5 scratch-off ticket.

He claimed his prize Friday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $176,254.

20X The Cash launched in February with eight top prizes of $250,000. Three top prizes remain.

Ticket sales from games like 20X The Cash make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $600 million dollars a year for education.
