Amilcar Bautista of Charlotte is thrilled after winning the $200,000 top prize playing Wheel of Fortune.

Bautista, who had won small prizes here and there, said he was excited to win a big prize.

Bautista bought the lucky $5 ticket at the 7-Eleven on Nations Ford Road in Charlotte. When he scratched the ticket in his car and saw he had won $200,000, he couldn’t believe it was possible.

Bautista claimed his prize Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal withholding, he took home $141,501.

Wheel of Fortune launched in May, with more than $13 million in prizes, including four top prizes of $200,000. Two more top prizes remain to be won.

Wheel of Fortune tickets can be entered into second-chance drawings to win a VIP trip for two to Los Angeles. Eight trips can be won. The prize includes round-trip airfare to Los Angeles, three nights’ deluxe accommodations, a tour of Sony Studios, a bus tour of Hollywood, studio audience tickets for a taping of the Wheel of Fortune show, and tickets to a Big Money Spin Event where up to $1 million can be won. The entry deadline for the first drawing is June 30.

Ticket sales from games like Wheel of Fortune make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $650 million a year for education. For details on how $61.9 million in lottery funds made a difference in Mecklenburg County last year, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
