Denine Gatling of Cove City in Craven County won half of a $302,930 jackpot in Saturday’s Carolina Cash 5 drawing.

Gatling had one of two lucky tickets that beat odds of 1 in 962,598 to match all five numbers in the drawing. She bought the lucky ticket, using personal numbers, at S&A Mini Mart on N.C. 55 West near Cove City.

Gatling claimed her prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal withholding, she took home $107,162.

The other half of the jackpot went to Mark Van Sciver of Cary. He bought his ticket, also using his own numbers, at the Stop N Go on Old Apex Road in Cary.

Cash 5 is a statewide draw game that gives players the chance to win a jackpot every single night. Tickets cost $1 and players can buy tickets at most lottery retailers and through Online Play on the lottery’s website. Monday’s jackpot is $110,000.

Ticket sales from draw games like Cash 5 make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $650 million a year for education. For details on how $5.8 million in lottery funds made a difference in Craven County last year, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
