For Robert Hinnant of Rocky Mount, a $200,000 ‘mega’ win means no more mortgage payments.

“It’s exciting,” said Hinnant. “It’s unbelieveable.”

Hinnant, a retiree, said his good luck means he can pay off his mortgage and take a vacation.

The big win came with a $5 Mega Bucks ticket Hinnant purchased at the 301 Convenient Mart on North Wesleyan Boulevard in Rocky Mount.

Hinnant claimed his prize Friday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $141,501.

Ticket sales from scratch-off games make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $700 million a year for education. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website, nclottery.com
