Geovany Garvalena of Roxboro bought a $5 VIP Cashword ticket and scratched off the $150,000 top prize.

Garvalena bought his ticket from the Roseville Grocery on Burlington Road in Roxboro and claimed his prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required tax withholdings, he took home $97,125.

VIP Cashword launched in March with five $150,000 top prizes. One $150,000 remains to be won.

Ticket sales from scratch-off games make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $900 million per year for education. For details on how money raised by the lottery made a difference in Person County in 2020, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
