Amos Batts of Rocky Mount tried his luck on a scratch-off ticket and won a $100,000 prize.
Batts purchased his $20 Premier Cash ticket from the City Dollar on South Church Street in Rocky Mount. He claimed his prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $70,756.
The Premier Cash ticket launched in August with four top prizes of $2 million and eight $100,000 prizes. Three $2 million prizes and five $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
Ticket sales from scratch-offs like Premier Cash make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $900 million a year for education.
