Kristina and Mark Racz of Chapel Hill tried their luck on a $10,000,000 Colossal Cash scratch off ticket and took home a $1 million prize.

The couple bought their ticket from the New Dixie Mart on Julian R Allsbrook Highway in Roanoke Rapids.

They claimed their prize Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh.

The Racz’s had a choice of taking the $1 million as an annuity of $50,000 a year over 20 years, or a lump sum of $600,000. They chose the lump sum of $600,000 and took home $424,509 after federal and state tax withholdings.

Ticket sales from scratch-off games make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $725 million per year for education. For details on how $3.7 million raised by the lottery made a difference in Chatham County in 2020, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
