Eddie Perdue of Greensboro multiplied the $5 he used to buy a scratch-off ticket into a $150,000 top prize win.
Perdue stopped at the Stanly Tobacco & Vapes on Landmark Center Boulevard in Greensboro for his Cashword Multiplier ticket.
The game launched in August with six $150,000 top prizes. Three remain to be won.
He claimed his prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $106,516.
Ticket sales from scratch-off games make it possible for the lottery to raise an average of $2.5 million a day for education. For details on how $33 million raised by the lottery made a difference in Guilford County last year, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
