Patricia Duffel of Linden took a second chance on a scratch-off ticket and won a $150,000 prize.

Duffel won the grand prize in the Dec.7 Holiday Spectacular second-chance drawing. She arrived at lottery headquarters Friday to collect her prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $106,515.

Players get a second chance with their holiday scratch-off tickets by scanning them into their lottery accounts where they are automatically entered into the next drawing. Winners of second-chance drawings get their first notification by email, followed by a phone call, and finally a certified letter.

The second and final Holiday Spectacular second-chance drawing on Feb. 8 will offer one $150,000 prize, two $10,000 prizes, and 100 prizes of $500. The deadline for entries is Jan. 31.

Ticket sales from scratch-off games make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $2.5 million a day on average for education. For details on how $23 million raised by the lottery made a difference in Cumberland County last year, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
