One North Carolinian who took a chance in Wednesday’s Powerball drawing matched all five white balls to win a $1 million prize.

The lucky winner purchased the $2 ticket from the Food Lion on N.C. 50 in Garner in Wake County. The win became one of two $1 million wins nationwide in Wednesday’s drawing, the other coming from Florida. One ticket in New York won $2 million in the drawing as well.

The odds of matching numbers on all five white balls are 1 in 11.6 million. The winner has 180 days from the drawing to claim the prize.

Since no one won Wednesday’s jackpot, the new jackpot for Saturday’s drawing will climb to $700 million as an annuity, or $375.7 million cash, the sixth largest offered in the history of the Powerball game.

Players can buy Powerball tickets at any lottery retail location, through Online Play on the lottery’s website or by using the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.
Ticket sales from draw games make it possible for the lottery to raise $2.5 million a day on average for education.
