Charlotte man celebrates $100,000 lottery win

Russell Hyson III of Charlotte took a chance on a $25 scratch-off and won a $100,000 prize.

Hyson bought his lucky Extreme Cash ticket from the Circle K on N.C. 49 South in Harrisburg.

He claimed his prize at lottery headquarters Friday and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $71,257.

Ticket sales from scratch-off games make it possible for the lottery to raise $2.5 million a day on average for education. For details on how $61.8 million raised by the lottery made a difference in Mecklenburg County last year, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
