After Arlene Williams of Roxboro won a $178,913 Fast Play jackpot, she could barely fall asleep.
“I tossed and turned that whole night,” she laughed.
Williams bought her lucky $2 Classic Bingo ticket on Sept. 23 from the Breeze Thru on Durham Road in Roxboro. At the time of her purchase, the jackpot stood at $894,565. Since Williams bought a $2 ticket, she received 20% of the progressive jackpot.
“I guess it was just the right place, right time,” Williams said.
She said she couldn’t believe it when she saw how much she won.
“I had to look again and again,” Williams recalled. “Then I called my daughter to tell her.”
Williams arrived at lottery headquarters in Raleigh on Tuesday to collect her prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $127,923.
She plans to use her winnings to pay off college loans.
Fast Play features an instantly growing jackpot that increases with every ticket sold until it is won. As of Tuesday afternoon, the Fast Play jackpot stands at $853,000 and counting.
