Jarvis Anderson of Fayetteville couldn’t help but scream after he found out he won a $389,869 Cash 5 jackpot.

“I let out a good yell,” he laughed. “Then my son came in to see what happened.”

Anderson bought his lucky $1 Quick Pick ticket from the Harris Teeter on Raeford Road in Fayetteville. His ticket matched all five numbers in the Oct. 25 drawing to win the jackpot. The odds of matching numbers on all five balls are 1 in 962,598.

“I had to pinch myself,” Anderson recalled. “I stayed up that night to watch the drawing so I was half asleep anyway.”

He claimed his prize at lottery headquarters in Raleigh and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $278,757.

Anderson plans to use his winnings to help his children and grandchildren.

Cash 5 is one of six lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or with the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. Monday’s jackpot is $332,000.
