An accidental lottery purchase became a life-changing moment for Cynthia Harris of Cary when she won a $736,874 prize playing a new digital instant game.
“I thought I was playing on Demo mode,” she laughed.
Harris won her big prize early Monday morning playing Bison Bonanza, a digital instant game featuring a progressive jackpot that can be won at any time. Harris played a $2 ticket and won the top level ‘Epic jackpot.’ The odds of that win are 1 in 15.5 million.
“I was like, ‘Wait how did this just happen,” she recalled. “It still hasn’t set in yet.”
The $736,874 jackpot represents the largest digital instant win since the lottery began offering digital instant games in November.
“I am a blessed person,” Harris said.
Harris claimed her prize at lottery headquarters Monday in Raleigh. After required federal and state tax withholdings, she took home $526,866.
She said she plans to use her winnings to help take care of her mother.
In the Bison Bonanza digital instant game, a player can play from 50 cents to $30. After Harris won the jackpot, it restarted at $50,000 and is now over $68,000 as of Tuesday morning.
Digital instant games are played exclusively online on the lottery’s website or on the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. Twenty different games are available to play online now.
