After getting off work on Thursday, Oxford resident Kyle Brogden stopped for gas, bought a Coke and a $5 scratch-off, and won a $200,000 top prize to top it off.

“It was insane,” he said. “This is life-changing money.”

Brogden purchased his lucky Red Hot Slots ticket from Murphy Express on Lewis Street in Oxford. He won the first top prize in the new game.

“I usually like to go for the new tickets,” he said. “And I’ve always loved the slots.”

Brogden, a father of four, called his wife after he won to tell her the good news

“She thought I was pranking her,” he laughed. “But she was ecstatic.”

He collected his prize at lottery headquarters Friday and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $143,001.

Brogden said he wants to invest the majority of his winnings and he has one other idea too.

“I’ve always wanted to open up my own gym,” he said.

Red Hot Slots debuted this month with five $200,000 top prizes. Four $200,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
