After moving to North Carolina less than a month ago, Daniel Brose of Advance played Cash 5 for the first time on Wednesday and won a $100,000 jackpot.

“I guess North Carolina is lucky,” he laughed.

Brose said he played a similar game in Florida and Pennsylvania but never won a big prize.

Since Brose moved into a new house less than a month ago, he plans to use his winnings to buy items he needs for his house.

“It’s coming at a good time for us,” he said.

Brose bought his lucky $1 Quick Pick ticket from the Food Lion on U.S. 158 in Advance.

He arrived at lottery headquarters on Monday to claim his winnings and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $71,502.

Cash 5 is one of six lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or with the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. Tuesday’s jackpot is $130,000.
