As Carletta Woodall of Parkton lay in bed about to go to sleep Thursday night, she put $1 on a digital instant game, a decision that led to a $343,099 jackpot win.

“I couldn’t sleep after that,” she laughed.

Woodall won the top level ‘Epic jackpot’ in the Bison Bonanza game, a digital instant game featuring a progressive jackpot that can be won at any time. The odds of that win are 1 in 31 million.

“When the numbers kept going up, I was like, ‘No way,’” she recalled. “You can imagine how shocked I was.”

Woodall said she already has one plan for her winnings.

“I’ve never been to Vegas so I want to take a trip there,” she said.

She claimed her prize at lottery headquarters Tuesday and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $245,316.

In addition to her trip, Woodall plans to do some home repairs and share her winnings with her family.

In the Bison Bonanza digital instant game, a player can play from 50 cents to $30. After Woodall won the jackpot, it restarted at $50,000 and is now over $177,000 as of Wednesday morning.

Digital instant games are played exclusively online on the lottery’s website or on the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. Twenty-five different games are available to play online now.

The state provided over $59 million in grants, using money raised by the lottery, to help Robeson County build a new career and technology high school. For details on other ways Robeson County benefits from lottery funds, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
