Coleman Dollarhide of Conover took a chance on a Powerball ticket and won a $250,000 prize Saturday night.

Dollarhide bought his lucky ticket using Online Play. He matched the numbers on four white balls and the red Powerball to win $50,000. Because he bought a $3 Power Play ticket, his prize increased to $250,000 when the 5X multiplier hit.

He arrived at lottery headquarters on Wednesday to claim his winnings and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $178,751.

Saturday’s Powerball jackpot stands at a $34 million annuity or $16.8 million in cash. The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.

Powerball is one of six draw games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.

Catawba County received a $38.2 million state grant, with money raised by the lottery, to help make additions and renovations to a Newton-Conover City Schools high school.
