William Bridgers of Raleigh can take care of some home renovations after winning the first $200,000 top prize in a new scratch-off game.

“My wife has been wanting to do renovations in the kitchen for a long time,” Bridgers said.

He bought his $5 Game of Thrones ticket at the Speedway on Creedmoor Road in Raleigh. After scratching the ticket at his home, it took him a few moments to process the big win.

“I sat there just looking at it,” Bridgers recalled.

Bridgers said he immediately showed the lucky ticket to his wife.

“I told her, ‘Do you see what I see?’” he said. “She didn’t believe it.”

He arrived at lottery headquarters Thursday to claim his prize and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $143,001.

The Game of Thrones game debuted this month with five $200,000 top prizes. Four $200,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
