Jennifer Conyers of Rocky Mount believes that every scratch-off she buys could hold a big prize on it and Thursday one did when she uncovered a $1 million top prize.

“Every time I get a scratch-off I think, ‘This is the one,’” Conyers said.

She bought her lucky $25 Spectacular Riches ticket from 301 Market on South McDaniel Street in Enfield. She then took it home to scratch it.

“I was in shock,” Conyers recalled.

She immediately called her son to tell him the good news.

“He said, ‘Are you serious,’” Conyers laughed.

When Conyers arrived to collect her winnings Friday, she had a decision to make. She could choose to receive her prize as an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. She chose the lump sum of $600,000 and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $429,007.

“This is a blessing,” she said.

Conyers plans to use her winnings to pay off her mortgage and buy her son a new car.

The Spectacular Riches game debuted October 2021 with eight $1 million top prizes and 20 $100,000 prizes. Since Conyers won the last $1 million prize, the lottery will begin the process of ending the game.
