Michael and Steven White, two brothers from Asheboro, tried their luck playing Cash 5 and won a $233,442 jackpot.
They bought the lucky $1 Quick Pick ticket from Ready Mart on North Broad Street in Seagrove. The ticket matched all five numbers in Monday’s drawing to win the jackpot. The odds of matching numbers on all five balls are 1 in 962,598.
They claimed the prize at lottery headquarters Tuesday in Raleigh. Since they split the prize, they each won $116,721 and both took home $83,456 after required tax withholdings.
Cash 5 is one of six lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or with the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. Tuesday’s jackpot is $100,000.
